Temperance in the Black Tarot
The eternal middle, compromise past the point of taste.
Portrait of the shadow
Black Temperance is the most invisible of shadows because it looks like virtue. She never overdoes, never raises, never insists. Her water put out her fire long ago, and now she pours the lukewarm blend into everything alive: into an argument so it won't flare, into joy so as not to jinx it, into love so as not to get burnt. The card's shadow is fear of intensity: where it's bright it hurts, so let it be even. But evenness has its price: life on the lowest flame doesn't cook — it stews, for decades, until the taste has fully steamed away. The way out is reclaiming the undiluted. One whole 'yes', one whole 'no', one emotion at full proof. The angel of this card mixes the streams not to make warm water — but so the living water stays alive.
The trap
Dilutes everything: feelings, opinions, tea. Neither hot nor cold — 'fine'. Has mixed the colours so many years that all of them turned grey.
The shadow in love and at work
In love: A relationship with no fights and no passion; a calm that resembles absence.
At work: The 'both yours and ours' position; nobody can recall her voice.
The way out
Pick an extreme in one question — and say it loudly.
