What your birth chart contains

A natal chart is a map of where the Sun, Moon and planets appeared along the zodiac at one moment. Astrology treats each layer as a different question: planets describe the function, signs describe its style, houses describe the life area, and aspects describe how two functions meet. The map does not measure personality scientifically and it does not remove choice; use it as a symbolic vocabulary for reflection.

The Big Three

The Sun is the centre you grow toward, the Moon describes emotional needs and recovery, and the Ascendant is the degree rising in the east — the way you meet new experience. The Ascendant needs coordinates and an accurate time.

Planets and aspects

Mercury speaks to thought and language, Venus to relating and value, Mars to drive, Jupiter to expansion and Saturn to structure. Uranus, Neptune and Pluto move slowly and often describe a generational background. Major aspects show their closest angular relationships.

How this calculator stays accurate

Planet positions come from the open-source Astronomy Engine ephemeris. The Ascendant is calculated from UTC time, geographic coordinates, Earth rotation and the true ecliptic of date. Houses use the whole-sign system: the complete rising sign is house one, the next sign house two, and so on. Different house systems can move cusps while leaving planet signs unchanged.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an exact birth time?

The Sun and most planet signs can be calculated from an approximate time, but the Moon may change sign within a day and the Ascendant changes much faster. Use the recorded local time whenever possible.

What if I do not know my birthplace coordinates?

Choose a city preset or look up the latitude and longitude of the birthplace. Coordinates are optional for planet signs but required for the Ascendant and houses.

Is my birth data stored?

No. The astronomical calculation runs in your browser, and this page does not submit the form to luminamur.
