Birthstones, month by month
Stones-of-the-month feel ancient, and partly are — breastplate-of-Aaron lists wander through centuries of tradition. The list you know, though, was standardised in 1912 by the American National Association of Jewelers, tidied for commerce and updated occasionally since. We tell each stone's real folklore anyway: symbols don't need old papers to work, they need meaning — and yours has twelve doors.

Birthstone meanings are tradition and story, told with affection — a lovely lens for a gift or a self-portrait, never a verdict or a promise.
