The Black Tower is not the one lightning strikes but the one that spends years asking for it. Its residents are virtuosos of cosmetic repair: a crack goes under wallpaper, a tilt becomes a design statement, a hum in the load-bearing floors — 'old buildings are like that'. This card's lightning is no punishment but a medic: it strikes the load-bearing lie. The Tower's shadow is the belief that rot not spoken of doesn't work. It works — precisely in silence. And the longer the deferral, the dearer the collapse: a wall that falls on time is a bruise; one propped up ten extra years is a fate. The way out demands something scarier than lightning: taking up the crowbar yourself. Take one wall apart honestly, down to the base, and look. The foundation is usually sounder than it seemed from under the wallpaper.
The trap
Fills the cracks while the walls sway. Truth knocks louder and louder — she turns the music up. When it falls, it will be 'sudden'.

In love: A marriage held up by wallpaper; the main thing unspoken for years.
At work: A tower company: everyone knows it's sinking, saying so is forbidden.

What the Black Tower asks you to face
The Black Tower asks you to stop waiting for the lightning. Somewhere in your life there is a truth everyone around you half-knows, and the energy that goes into not saying it is enormous. This card invites you to look at that crack now, while you still get to choose how and when.
Facing it does not mean burning everything down. It means one honest inspection: what is really load-bearing here, and what is just wallpaper?
How it differs from the classic Tower
The classic Tower is the moment of collapse: sudden change, shattered illusions, a revelation that arrives from outside. The Black Tower is the long period before it, when the cracks are visible and you are busy covering them. The bright card says "this is falling"; the shadow card says "you already know why, and you could start the repair yourself." It is less dramatic and more within your power.
The Black Tower in love, at work and as advice
- In love: the topic you both steer around at dinner. Choose a calm moment and name it in one sentence, without accusation.
- At work: the problem nobody is allowed to mention. You may not be able to fix it, but you can stop building your plans as if it did not exist.
- As advice: controlled demolition beats an accident. Take apart one assumption deliberately, with support around you.
