Portrait of the shadow
The Black Magician's tools are real — wand, cup, sword and coin lie on the table just as they do for his bright twin. The difference is where the will points. The bright Magician joins sky and earth so that something is born; the black one, so that something appears to be. He hypnotises no victim so thoroughly as himself: his days are full of furious motion arranged around the fear of one simple, checkable result. Manipulation is mastery that took a wrong turn — power without honesty. The way out is surprisingly quiet: one piece of work finished with no audience. Real skill needs no smoke.
The trap
Words outrun deeds, promises replace results. Around him everything is possible — and nothing happens. Charisma has become a way to avoid work.
