Year 5: the wood anniversary
What the year means
Five years is wood: the first symbol with rings inside. Trees mark every year they survive — droughts thinner, good years wide — and so do you. Wood is strength that stays warm to the touch: solid now, still growing.
Gifts that fit
Something made of actual tree: a cutting board that becomes the kitchen's heart, a carved box for the paper-year letters, a bench for the balcony, bookshelf, or — the grand version — a tree planted somewhere you can visit at twenty-five.
A tiny ritual
Count your rings aloud: one memory per year, five candles, five toasts. Droughts get named too; that's what rings are for.
The cat tests the new wooden board with one approving paw: "Solid. The household may proceed."
