Five Questions Worth Asking Each Other in the Evening
Closeness in a couple is rarely destroyed by big fights. Far more often it thins out quietly, because two people stop asking. It feels like you already know everything about the person beside you. Then one day it turns out you knew last year's version.
The good news: this is cured not by serious "we need to talk" conversations, which make both of you tense up, but by small questions. Here are five you can ask each other in the evening — not all at once, but one at a time, in a quiet minute.
1. "What was the best part of your day?"
A simple question that switches the evening from fatigue to warmth. You learn what delights this person right now — and that changes more often than you'd think. Bonus: they get used to looking for the good in a day, so they'll have something to tell you.
2. "Is there anything you've been missing lately?"
A careful way to hear about a lack before it turns into a grudge. Sometimes the answer will be mundane ("sleep"); sometimes important ("feeling that we're a team"). Both are worth hearing in time.
3. "Was there something you were grateful to me for today?"
The question sounds unusual, but it works wonders. It teaches you both to notice the good in each other out loud. And being noticed is one of the most underrated forms of love.
4. "Is there something you wanted to say but didn't?"
A little door for whatever accumulates in silence. Not every evening will there be something behind it — and that's a good sign too. But when there is, you'll hear it over tea, not a month later at raised voices.
5. "What do you want from tomorrow?"
A question that gently joins two "I"s into one "we" — at least one day ahead. Sometimes plans are born from it; sometimes only the feeling of looking the same way. Both count.
Don't turn this into a survey, and don't ask all five in a row — that's how a living conversation becomes an interrogation. One question, a little silence, an honest answer. That's enough.
