Strength in the Black Tarot
Patience rotted into endurance; strength turned against its owner.
Portrait of the shadow
Bright Strength tames the lion with gentleness. Black Strength went further — she tamed herself. Her anger, her 'no', her hunger, her tiredness: everything wild in her walks to heel and gives its paw. From outside it looks like sainthood; from inside it is a slow leak. Anger denied its growl doesn't vanish — it settles: in the back, in clenched jaws, in sudden tears over spilt milk. The card's shadow is the confusion of composure with self-suppression: the first chooses when to stay silent, the second has forgotten how to speak. The way out begins with a small blasphemy: admitting you are angry. A lion allowed its voice doesn't attack — the one that attacks is the one muzzled for ten years.
The trap
Smiles when it hurts; 'I'm fine' is her second skin. She tamed not the lion but her own voice: it no longer growls even when it should.
The shadow in love and at work
In love: Endures the unendurable and calls it wisdom.
At work: Carries three people's load, asking for help feels 'awkward'.
The way out
Once, say 'this doesn't work for me' out loud — without the shock-absorber smile.
