Justice in the Black Tarot
The ledger instead of love, being right worth more than being close.
Portrait of the shadow
Black Justice keeps a perfect archive. Every unfairness filed, dated, cross-referenced. She is not vengeful in the vulgar sense — she merely 'restores balance', and balance somehow always needs restoring in her favour. The sword her bright sister uses to cut away lies is otherwise engaged here: it keeps people at blade's length. The card's shadow is principle turned to armour plate: being right doesn't warm you, but at least it doesn't wound. Arguing with her is impossible: she wins every case in a court where she is both judge and injured party. The way out is amnesty. Not because it is 'the right thing' — that's her own trap — but because the archive has filled rooms life could have lived in.
The trap
Remembers everything: who, when, how much. The scales are always on her — and always show someone else's debt. Being right feels better than being happy.
The shadow in love and at work
In love: A bookkeeping of grievances; 'and what about you, last March' as an argument.
At work: The letter of procedure over its point; colleagues walk the line — and away.
The way out
Forgive one small debt silently — and notice what gets lighter.
