Isa ᛁ
Isa is ice — one vertical stroke, the simplest rune in the row. Everything stands still: the river, the plan, the argument. Old sailors respected ice as beautiful and treacherous; the rune keeps both notes — the pause that preserves, and the freeze that grips.
Upright
Isa calls a halt, and means it kindly: this situation needs winter, not effort. Growth continues under the ice invisibly; pushing now just cracks surfaces people were standing on. It favours stillness with a purpose — consolidating, watching, wintering skills and feelings that ripen unattended. The thaw has a date; your job is not to schedule it but to be rested when it comes.
In shadow — this rune has no reversed
Isa has no reversed — a line is a line upside down. Its shadow is the permanent freeze: numbness marketed as peace, the pause that quietly became the plan, relationships kept on ice so long the label reads 'archive'. If nothing has moved in seasons, the ice isn't protecting anymore. It's just cold.
In love
In love, Isa is the cooling — space needed, or distance already grown glassy. Upright it can be honest wintering: two people resting the field. Its question is always consent: agreed pause, or one person's unilateral weather?

At work, Isa marks the stalled deal, the hiring freeze, the project on hold — and advises using the stillness: sharpen tools, document, learn. Forcing frozen negotiations mostly costs fingers. Warmth, applied patiently, outperforms hammers on ice.
