Hagalaz ᚺ
Hagalaz is hail — the crop-flattening kind. It opens the second aett with weather you don't negotiate with: disruption, the plan cancelled by the sky. Yet in the old riddle hail is also 'the corn of the air' — ice that melts into water that feeds next year's field.
Upright
Hagalaz announces the storm that clears the calendar: sudden change, external and unbudgeable. Its counsel is a farmer's — shelter what can be sheltered, waste no fury on the sky, and remember the second half of the rune's promise: hailstones melt. What this disruption waters becomes visible surprisingly soon, usually as the honest version of plans the storm interrupted.
In shadow — this rune has no reversed
Hagalaz has no reversed — hail falls the same from every angle. Its shadow is the response, not the weather: rebuilding identically on the flattened spot, or declaring permanent winter after one hard afternoon. Storms end. Staying stormed is the only extension available, and it's self-issued.
In love
In love, Hagalaz is the external shock — the move, the diagnosis, the crisis neither of you ordered. It doesn't judge the bond; it stress-tests it. Couples who face the hail as one field, not two lawsuits, come out oddly reinforced.
In work and money
At work, it is the market turn, the reorg, the cancelled everything. Hagalaz strategy: protect the core, document the lessons, and watch for the melt — disruptions reprice things, and repricings hide doors.
A step that helps
Write two lists in the storm: 'mine to fix' and 'weather'. Act only on the first. The second melts on schedule.
The cat watches the hail from the windowsill, unbothered: 'Sky's business. Mine is the warm side of glass.'
Runes here are a mirror for reflection and a piece of living history — not a prediction and not a promise. For entertainment and thought.
