What your love archetype says, beneath the love languages

Love languages describe how you like to give and receive affection: words, gifts, time, touch. This quiz digs one layer lower, into the shape of your love itself. Twelve situations ask what you do when a partner is ill, what frightens you in a relationship and which hour of love feels most like yours. Together they point to one of three archetypes: love as care, love as intensity, or love as staying.

It is fun because the answers are small, familiar scenes rather than abstract traits, and useful because each archetype comes with a gentle piece of homework. If you want the language layer too, pair it with Dialects of the Heart.

The three love archetypes

None is better than another. A Tender and a Harbor may build a very cosy home; a Flame and a Harbor often learn the most from each other.

How to take it honestly and use your result

Choose the answer that describes what you actually do, not the partner you wish you were. If two answers fit, go with the one that appears when you are tired; that is usually the truest version. Note that if your scores tie, the quiz shows the archetype listed first, so a close split is worth reading all three descriptions.

Reflection prompt: what does my archetype give easily, and what does it quietly hope to receive back? Tenders often wait to be cared for in return, Flames fear the fire settling, Harbors fear being treated as scenery. A small next step: tell your partner one thing your archetype needs this week, in one sentence. Our deep questions for couples and the guide to attachment styles can make that talk easier.
