Find an exact solar return

Birth moment

The return instant is the same worldwide. The offset changes only the displayed clock; houses would also require the place where the return is experienced.

How the solar return is calculated

First the calculator finds the Sun's apparent geocentric ecliptic longitude at birth. It then searches the birthday window in the selected year for the instant the transiting Sun reaches that same longitude. Because calendar years and Earth's orbit do not have identical lengths, the return can fall before or after the birth clock time—and occasionally on the neighbouring civil date.

Global instant

The astronomical return happens at one UTC instant everywhere on Earth.

Local clock

Your entered offset converts that instant for display; it does not change the return itself.

Houses need place

A house-based solar-return chart also needs the location where the return is experienced. This page does not invent it.

Solar-return meanings belong to astrological tradition and cannot guarantee the events of a year. Treat the chart as a reflective annual theme, never as a reason to delay medical, legal, financial or safety decisions.

Frequently asked questions

Is a solar return always on my birthday?

It is near the birthday but may fall on a neighbouring civil date or at a different clock time because the calendar and orbit do not match exactly.

Which location should I use for a solar return chart?

The exact return instant is global. Houses and angles require a location, and astrologers differ on whether to use residence, birthplace or the place physically occupied.

Is birth data saved?

No. The form has no submission endpoint; the astronomical calculation runs locally in your browser.
