The honest paragraph
The language of flowers assigned meanings by committee and poetry in equal parts — violets got 'modesty' partly because they literally hide. Which is the honest gift-note: give violets to the person whose steadiness nobody applauds; the flower has meant exactly that to exiles and lovers for centuries.
