Selenite is gypsum — soft enough to scratch with a fingernail and genuinely water-soluble: the famous warning is chemistry, not lore. As for cleansing, no instrument detects 'stored negativity' in minerals; what the white wand cleanses is your attention — the sweep is a bodily punctuation mark saying 'that's done now', and punctuation works.
