Arcana of the year

Each calendar year carries one of the twenty-two energies for you personally: day + month + the digits of the year, reduced to 1–22. It is a keynote, not a schedule — the theme the year keeps returning to.

The Destiny Matrix is a tool for reflection and inspiration, not a prediction. For entertainment.

How the arcana of the year is calculated

Three numbers go in: your birth day, your birth month and the digit sum of the calendar year you're looking at. Each is kept within 1–22, then they're added; if the total passes 22, its digits are added until it fits. The calculator shows the current year and the next one, so you can see the handover.

A worked example: born 14 March. For 2026 the year digits give 2 + 0 + 2 + 6 = 10, so 14 + 3 + 10 = 27 → 2 + 7 = 9, the Hermit. For 2027: 2 + 0 + 2 + 7 = 11, so 14 + 3 + 11 = 28 → 10, the Wheel of Fortune. The birth year doesn't matter here — two women born on 14 March in different years share the same year arcana.

This calculator uses the calendar year, January to December. Some matrix schools count the personal year from birthday to birthday; if you compare with another source, check which method it uses.

What the year arcana describes

Think of it as the keynote the year keeps humming. In the example, a Hermit year (2026) leans towards study, solitude and sorting out what really matters; the Wheel year that follows (2027) turns towards movement, timing and changing circumstances. Read the pair together: a quiet year that prepares for a moving one is a useful story in itself.

It also helps to compare the year card with your fixed matrix. If it matches one of your points, the year tends to spotlight that theme; if it's an arcana you don't have anywhere, the year may feel like an unfamiliar role you're trying on.

Every arcana has a light and a shadow side. A Tower year is not a disaster forecast; it can simply be the year you stop propping up what no longer works.

How to use it through the year

  1. At the start of the year, write one sentence: what would a healthy version of this arcana look like in my life?
  2. Each season, reread it and note one moment that fitted and one that didn't.
  3. In the last months, look at next year's card and ask what you want to carry across.

Limits worth keeping in mind

The year arcana is a reflective theme, not a schedule of events. It can't tell you when to move, marry, change jobs or make any big decision, and it's shared by everyone with your birthday. Use it to ask better questions about the year, then let real circumstances and your own judgement decide.

Frequently asked questions

Why don't I need my birth year for the year arcana?

The formula uses only your birth day and month plus the year you're looking at, so your birth year doesn't enter the sum.

Can I look up a past year?

The calculator shows the current and next year, but you can work out any year by hand: add your day, month and that year's digit sum, and reduce anything over 22.

What if my year arcana is the same as my core arcana?

That's read as a year when your central theme is especially visible — a good time to notice both its gifts and its habits.
